Reality TV talent show makes good with diamond in rough sensation

Reality TV talent shows often cater to what we expect.  But once in while someone walks through the door that hasn’t ever been given a chance and turns into a star despite many obstacles.  Such is the case of Scottish woman, named Susan Boyle who showed up at a reality TV show called “Britains Got Talent,” hosted by Simon Cowell of American Idol fame. Once the 48-year-old unassuming women  started singing “I Dream A Dream” from Les Miserable, to a standing ovation, her simple life changed forever.
The YouTube video of the talented new singer is causing a global Internet sensation, having already been viewed 5.9 million times since it was posted last Saturday on April 11, and the star of the video is not what you would expect as a rising new talent.

Appearing on stage with her plain looks and Sunday-best frock, subjected to exaggerated eye-rolls from audience members, including Simon Cowell, when she told them her age, everyone present soon changed their tune once she began singing in an astonishing sweet-sounding voice, wowing the audience.Even the notorious cynical Simon Cowel was impressed, the YouTube video showing him with a smile of pure unadulterated delight on his usual dour puss.
This quick rise to fame couldn’t have happened to a more deserving person. Susan Boyle has always lived at home in a quiet Scottish town, taking care of her now deceased parents in her later years. She suffers from a learning disability, resulting from a lack of oxygen at birth, and she still recalls the ridicule she experienced while at school.
She now lives alone, is unemployed and says she has “never been kissed.” She used to sing in the church choir at the urging of her mother, who died just two-years ago.
In this cynical culture we live in, where looks are everything and people run to the plastic surgeon to erase well earned signs of aging, Susan Boyle is a breath of fresh air. She appeared on stage sans makeup, with graying hair and bushy eyebrows, armed only with her talent and that was quite enough.
It’s not often we get to see and hear the “real thing,” with Boyle’s naturally beautiful voice, but more importantly, the fact that a nation of cynics can look past her appearance and embrace her talent, is all the more cause for celebration.
